The WAC Bylaws define several standing committees. Committees are typically staffed by WAC Member volunteers, and are appointed to committee assignments by the WAC President. Some committee members may also be WAC Officers, Staff Members, or Directors; per the WAC Bylaws, the President is an ex-officio member of all WAC committees, with the exception of the Election Committee. What follows is a description of the WAC standing committees:

The Finance and Audit Committee reviews WAC accounting records at least quarterly with the Treasurer and reports the results to the Board of Directors (BoD), explaining any discrepancies or exceptions they find. The Finance and Audit Committee also interviews and recommends to the BoD a Public Accounting firm to conduct a review or audit of the corporation’s books for the following year as elsewhere provided in the WAC Bylaws. Each year the Finance and Audit Committee prepares an annual budget which shall be presented to the BoD for approval not later than the March BoD meeting. This budget must cover the ensuing fiscal year beginning the following July 1st. The committee also reviews all revenues and expenses each month and compares them with the budget, reporting the results to the BoD and explaining any discrepancies they find. At least one member of the committee must be a person trained and skilled in financial and budgetary long-range planning. Finally, the Bylaws require that all requests for all off-budget expenditures in excess of $250 in any month must first be presented to the Finance and Audit Committee, which then has to report to the BoD concerning the financial effects of the request before the BoD can approve it.

The Building Fund Committee is responsible for monitoring the WAC building fund, and seeking out investment opportunities for that fund. The Building Fund Committee has historically been tasked with searching for sites where WAC might be able to construct its own facilities at those times when WAC has had the financial means to do so.

The Bylaws Committee is charged with occasionally (or as requested by the BoD), reviewing club Bylaws, policies, procedures, and the WAC Rules of the Road to ensure that such regulations are current and reflect the desires of the membership and the BoD.

The Display & Awards Committee is charged with organizing special shows that present collector displays. A display award show is typically sponsored in October of each year. Member displays at this show are judged on a variety of factors with awards granted for presentation, condition, and depth of the displayed collections.

The Education & Training Committee formulates, organizes, and presents training and educational opportunities to members of the Washington Arms Collectors and the general public.

The Election Committee is created each year during the WAC general election. This committee supervises all elections held by the WAC until the conclusion of the next general election (typically 12 months). The committee or its designee shall, among other functions, design WAC election ballots, control the ballot boxes, receive and count the ballots, and announce all results. The committee shall preserve all ballots returned in each election during its term of office for 90 days following the resolution of such election, at which time the ballots are destroyed.

The Legislative Committee ensures that the Members, Officers, and Directors of the Washington Arms Collectors are informed of public issues and policy debates that are relevant to their shared interests.

The Public Affairs Committee is at the forefront of the Washington Arms Collector’s ongoing commitment to community and country. The committee addresses a wide range of firearms related public policy issues, seeks to sponsor programs on current affairs with prominent speakers of interest to club members and serves as the conduit for the Club’s involvement in civic affairs. The committee is responsible for addressing public policy matters and recommending policy positions to the BoD. The committee advances its work in many ways, including coalition building, supporting public information campaigns, sponsoring debates and forums, and by testifying before legislative bodies on behalf of positions approved by the BoD.

The Publications Committee is responsible for publication of the club journal (the GunNews), interviewing candidates as editor of the GunNews, and makes recommendations to the BoD regarding the installment or removal of the editor. The committee normally has at least three members, one of whom shall be the editor of the GunNews. The committee shall review the content of each issue of the GunNews for content, and has the power to instruct the editor not to publish inappropriate material.

The Special Projects & Fund-Raising Committee is tasked with developing on-going and single-event revenue opportunities for WAC. It is also responsible for such additional projects as the President assigns or the BoD directs.

The Vendor Liaison Committee is intended to search out and address with WAC BoD and Staff members issues that are of concern to table holders.

Special committees may be created for short periods of time when a specific task or goal needs to be accomplished, but is not covered by any other established committee. Unlike the standing committees, special committees have a limited lifespan and automatically expire upon delivery of a final report to the BoD, or upon the 1 year anniversary of commencement.
